Getting Organized for Christmas in July

Getting organized for Christmas in July may seem crazy but it’s really never too soon. Benjamin Franklin wasn’t wrong when he said “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” And you can start today to ease the stress that comes with Christmas preparations.

I get positively giddy at the thought of getting work done ahead of time, handed in and checked off the list early. While I don’t suggest necessarily doing all of your Christmas decorating in July, you cn certainly mark a few things off your massive to do list now and pat yourself on the back.

Here are 5 things you can do now, yes, even in July, to get organized for Christmas:

  1. Select your Christmas card photo. A lot of families have photo shoots while on vacation or use a photo or two from vacation for their annual cards. Pick out yours soon so you can either edit it or decide if you need to take more pictures!

  2. Start your card list. While you’re planning and designing your card, go ahead and get started on your card list. If you’ve got one from last year, you can just verify the addresses and names. If you’re starting fresh, here is a template you can use.

  3. Find and group together your holiday decor. By the time you’re ready to to decorate for Christmas, you’ve got even less time to find everything to put on display. Take a few minutes and group it all together wherever you store it. That way it’s easy to find. Get some lidded bins to contain them if you need to replace the tattered cardboard boxes.
If you happen to notice that your wreaths or tree skirt aren’t looking so hot or the dog chewed through them without your noticing, you have time to replace them before they are sold out.

  4. Decide what you’re going to decorate. While you’re looking at your current Christmas decor, start a plan of what you’re going to put out and where. Is everything going in the same spot as last year? Great, you’re done!
But if you think you may want to change up your style a little, now is the time to start planning for those updates. Get out your pen and paper and start taking notes!

  5. Start your gift list. You know I love a list so much I’m giving you another template here to use. Print this out and start filling out now who know should be on this list. You’ll be checking it twice in the next few months! The sooner you get started, the sooner you can take advantage of deals and plan your purchases.

Now is the time to get started on at least THINKING about the upcoming holiday season. Believe it or not, now is when you want to look for holiday items you need to purchase because decor sells out early and fast!

If you’re thinking about organizing your holiday decor, I’ll be posting more on that later. In the meantime, here are some items I use you probably need (affiliate link which means I may make a commission on items purchased but no added cost for you) to help you get organized for Christmas in July.

Let me know in the Comments what you’re doing now to get organized for the upcoming holidays! 😁
