Favorite versatile organizing systems

At Neatsmart, we pride ourselves on creating organizing systems that work and part of that is sourcing the correct tools and materials. When you have the right solution, the organizing problem is solved. When you know what you have and where it goes, your home is organized.

I’m often asked what are the best shelves or what’s the best system to put in a closet and it’s hard to give just one answer. Every closet has different needs, budget, and aesthetics. However, I have found that the Elfa systems by The Container Store to be an optimal solution to many organizing problems.

Sometimes you just need some additional drawers in a closet to maximize the existing space and sometimes you need a closet overhaul. Again, there are lots of options out there but I repeatedly play the Elfa card at the table because it solves a lot of organizing problems easily and efficinently,

And here is why they work:

Completely flexible. The closet systems are completely flexible in terms of having shelves, hanging bars, drawers, shoe spaces, can organizers, etc. I haven’t even used all of their options in my designs but they really have something for everyone.
And you can move shelves around add or remove drawers as your needs change. It can grow with you and your family as it evolves.

Sturdy. Being metal, they don’t fall apart easily and can hold a lot of weight. It’s good for garages as well as bathroom cabinets. I have some drawers of my mother’s that were purchased at least 30 years ago and they are in perfect condition. The heavier framework means they don’t tip over or wobble after repeated use.

Several size options. I’ve used just the drawers in bathroom cabinets, linen closets, clothes closets, art studios, offices, gift closets, etc. They fit a multitude of uses and situations. I’ve had shelves installed in pantries, garages, closets, offices, and for kids’ rooms. You can get a completely customized solution or work with their existing solutions. Their door solutions are an excellent example of maximizing frequently overlooked but valuable door space.

Maximize your bathroom cabinet space with these drawers. Measure first and watch out for the plumbing!

Unobtrusive style. The style is no comparison with a Chippendale or Baker armoire. However, closets are nor public spaces. You can certainly dress up Elfa with fascia and other decorative elements. I prefer a closet or storage system that disappears because it’s a supporting player, not the main attraction.

Getting a drawer unit with a top gives you an additional surface for storage or folding.

There is no one size fits all solution but I come back to Elfa repeatedly because it provides maximum value for the money. Nobody wants to have to recreate a solution because it fell apart or didn’t last. This is a solution for the life of your home. It’s an investment in you.

Measure twice, buy once. And if you need help with a design, we are here to help you.
