What I'm organizing this week

The week between Christmas and New Year’s is my favorite week of the year. It is a time to wrap up the old, get ready for the new, and do a little decluttering along the way. It’s a classic example of “think of your future self” and how much you’ll benefit from taking a little time to wrap up loose ends and take care of some nagging tasks.

Here is what I’m organizing this week in order to get ready for the New Year:

  1. Refrigerator. I don’t know about you, but I’ve done a ton of cooking and baking over the past week which has completely filled up my refrigerator. While it’s a wonderful time for eating and celebrating, my fridge needs a quick declutter and organized to get rid of the super old leftovers, any food that’s gone bad, and anything that’s expired.

  2. Boxes & ribbon. I love to reuse any ribbon but especially Christmas ribbon. That is the first thing I pick up after all of the presents have been opened! I have a bin in my gift closet that is just for leftover Christmas ribbon that I will use over and over as long as it still looks nice. I don’t go as far as my Grandmother did when she would iron it.
I also reuse gift boxes but they have to be in good condition. Too much of a good thing is very real so I don’t go overboard trying to save EVERY box. Like the ribbon, just the good ones.

  3. Closet makeover. Everything in my closet needs a little tidy up. I’ve got a chair of in between clothes—the ones that I’ve worn but I don’t consider dirty. Well, now is the time to address that pile! I’m not going to spend a ton of time but lining up shoes and folding sweaters will make it look so much better. AND help me with #4….

  4. Organize donations. We go through all of the closets quickly this week to pull out any donations that can be taken before the year’s end. Especially since you may have gotten new clothes or blankets, now is a good time to evaluate what’s in your closets and decide to donate what you’ve been blessed with. We usually drop these off on New Year’s Eve but any day this week is good.

  5. Calendar. I usually get a new planner this month but don’t take the time to really fill it in until this week. (I’ve been buying the same style for 6 years now! This layout is absolutely the best IMO).Now is when I add birthdays, travel plans, and any other events that I know of.
I also have a page in the back for Gift Ideas and Goals/ Things I want to get accomplished this year. Right now, “renew passport” is all I have on the list but I will have 19 more items on it soon.

Let m know what you’ve got going on this week and what you’re going to organize!
